Members of the Cricket Writers’ Club have overwhelmingly voted in favour of changing the name of the club to the Cricket Media Club, to better reflect a media landscape encompassing print, television, radio, online, photography, social media and beyond in a modern digital age. Please find below a note from Cricket Media Club chair, Dean Wilson, announcing the name change to our members.
Dear members,
I hope this message finds you well and in fine cricketing health during the middle of an action packed summer.
With so much cricket having been played already and with much more to come, we can count ourselves lucky to be able to enjoy the game often from a ringside vantage.
The way that we all consume this great game though has changed considerably over the 79 years that the club has been in existence and the way that we play our part as conduits for the game to the public has changed too.
And it was with that in mind that I humbly brought forward the suggestion, first raised by a previous chair, Alison Mitchell, that we might change our name to better reflect the modern media landscape as part of a desire to ensure we are around for another 79 years and more.
I am genuinely thankful for the open and honest way that the club has taken this suggestion open board and agreed to a new name, as voted on by our membership.
Thus it is with great pleasure I can confirm that the club has overwhelmingly decided to rename itself the Cricket Media Club and we shall be using this name moving forward.
In the coming days and weeks you will see the name change put into operation across our website and social media channels and the annual awards lunch will reflect this change too, with a new club logo to be unveiled in due course.
The essence of the club has not changed. We are still here for all cricket media and if there are any issues that we can help with, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Wishing you all the very best,
Dean Wilson, Chair of the Cricket Media Club
